Turning the Dirt – Measure L Updates
This past spring, the bond officially broke ground. A very rainy groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 11 for the San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building; sunny skies greeted those who attended the ceremony for the North County Campus Center building on March 24. Both events were very well attended by community officials, key bond construction personnel, college administration, faculty and staff. Work continues on both buildings, which are scheduled for completion in fall 2017 and full use in spring 2018. The college is also looking into the future at the second issuance projects, which will launch in spring 2018.
They include a new Data Center, Aquatics Center, and Campus Center on the San Luis Obispo Campus, and a new Early Childhood Education facility on the North County Campus.
Staying Local
The majority of contractors hired to do Measure L bond work on the first two new buildings are local – meaning the majority of taxpayer dollars going toward these projects is staying local.
SLO Campus Instructional Building: 13 of 14 contracts are local; $10 million of $12 million total project cost
North County Campus Center: 10 of 13 contracts are local; $15 million of $20 million total project cost
