Ribbon-Cutting Event for New SLO Campus Instructional Building
Cuesta College is celebrating its new Measure L-funded San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 5 and is encouraging the community, faculty, staff, and students to take part. This is the first Measure-L funded facility to open at Cuesta College.
The District will host the ceremony from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the building and enjoy refreshments outside. Complimentary parking will be available in lot 5. Those planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP to the Cuesta College Foundation Office by February 1 via calling (805) 546-3279 or by registering online.
“This ribbon-cutting ceremony represents the culmination of several years of planning and hard work involving many departments and individuals, and also is one example of keeping our promise to the residents of San Luis Obispo County to ensure their local tax dollars went to improving their community college,” said Cuesta College Superintendent/President Dr. Gil Stork. “We are excited to showcase this new, state-of-the-art facility with the public, and invite everyone to join us as we celebrate this major enhancement of the San Luis Obispo Campus.”
The 32,000 square foot, two-story structure houses eight high-capacity, multi-discipline classrooms on the ground level, capable of serving up to 45 students each. It also contains one forum-sized classroom, capable of serving 90 students. The second floor is comprised of more than 40 offices, staff lounges and meeting rooms. The new structure sits in the southwest corner of the campus, and houses programs previously operated in modular structures. Construction officially began in early April of 2016. The project was completed on time (Fall 2017) and on budget ($20M).
Passed in November of 2014 by the voters of San Luis Obispo County, Measure L is a general obligation bond in the amount of $275M. For more information on current and future Measure L projects, visit www.cuestacollegebond.info.
